Information on Wind Generators, Water Generators and Regulators
LVM wind generators
'Aerogen' offers you FREE environmentally friendly power whenever the wind blows. The more low-voltage D.C. equipment that your boat carries, the greater the demand on the vessel's batteries. Why risk flat batteries at the weekend? 'Aerogen' can generate power all week, keeping the batteries topped-up.
There are three models in the 'Aerogen' range, each available in 12V or 24V
Aero2gen
- For the small boat with limited space for a wind charger.
- For installations needing only a low charging rate to maintain the battery.
Aero4gen
- Our most popular model. For boats up to about 11m
- Compact and easy to mount safely.
Aero6gen
- Powerful generator for larger boats.
- For Blue Water sailing.
The 'Aerogen' design is light yet robust enough for the harsh marine environment, with high efficiency stator windings, an epoxy-encapsulated rotor and heavy duty bearings. No maintenance is required.
With all 'Aerogen' models, a regulator is recommended to prevent over charging of the battery. Mounting kits manufactured from stainless steel are also available for a professional installation.
For land installations we offer 'Aerogen' furled wind generators, which furl automatically at wind speeds above 40 knots. As powerful as their marine equivalents and suitable for unattended operation, these models are in use worldwide, often in remote and inhospitable locations. At 40 knots, the tail fin automatically turns the rotor out of the wind to protect the generator, limiting its output and reducing the mechanical load on the mounting. For details see models LVM-412F & LVM424F and LVM-612F & LVM-624F 'Aerogen' furled models are not suitable for boats

Regulators
All wind chargers should be controlled by a regulator. There are units available for single and twin battery installations, and a diode unit is available for larger installations.
SB (single battery) regulator
The regulator senses the battery voltage. When the battery is at full charge, the load is diverted to a resistant coil and dissipated as heat while keeping the charger on load. This unit works by sensing the battery voltage and thus will prevent high capacity battery charging systems such as TWC Adverc from functioning. Ideal for a stand-alone charging system.
TB (twin battery) regulator
The regulator is unaffected by other charging sources and is recommended for marine installations where the engine alternator is also charging the battery. It includes a voltage monitoring PWM circuit and allows the generator to charge two separate batteries therefore making it ideal for separate charging of engine and domestic batteries.
DU diode unit
For multiple battery installations. An additional diode unit is needed for each extra battery or battery bank.
LVM 'Aquagen' water towed generators
'Aquagen' can produce most, if not all of the power required on a cruising yacht when the yacht is in motion. The generator is mounted on the stern of the boat and turned by a small turbine towed on a rope behind the vessel.
With their constant high output, low drag and near silent operation they are widely used by blue water cruisers but are equally suited for coastal waters.
The generator is quickly and securely mounted on the transom by a rope (supplied). The turbine is dropped into the water and is towed 15 20 M behind the boat. It travels 1-3 metres below the surface and the replaceable turbine blades are designed to break away should they snag on an object.
'Aquagen' has a high efficiency brushless alternator with heavy duty windings and an epoxy encapsulated rotor. Corrosion resistant marine quality materials are used throughout. 'Aquagen' is maintenance free.
A wind conversion kit is available to convert 'Aquagen' to wind power, helping to maintain battery charge when the vessel is moored. Conversion is a quick and simple operation.
A regulator is recommended for 'Aquagen' installations.
